Continuing on with OSPF – worked on adjacencies and what can cause them to fail – network mismatches due to differing network types, point-point, multi-point, broadcast & non-broadcast. Use of the ip ospf network command, two types of summaries – summary-address and area-range, when to use which, external route being redistributed into OSPF as against an aggregating an OSPF area. Using authentication with the most secure form [MD5] and virtual links for those routers not touching area 0 but requiring OSPF route exchange. Then the 3 ways to adjust OSPF cost – reference bandwidth, interface bandwidth, and manual manipulation of cost. Finally verification – use of the TCL script command foreach for multiple pings. I left redistribution for another day!
PS: Another great reference site – www.packetlife.net, specifically their summarised cheat sheets – the name is not great but they are concise bullet point notes on various routing protocols & technologies.
