3550 Switching

Switching: Nailed down switching this evening – nothing fancy there to be honest but crucial to a potential success – ran through VTP, VLAN, Trunking, Encapsulation, SDM, verification commands such as sh vtp stat, sh vlan, sh int trunk, sh vlan brief, etc. I used the old Ipexpert 3550 white paper as well – still a good read and put the commands through my 3550 – no issues – biggest problem I see here in the lab is overconfidence or miss-typing!

Frame-Relay

Frame-Relay: This technology has been around forever and I have to say I like it – ran through the NBMA concept again – looked at point-point on sub-interfaces and multipoint – no biggies, some training material mention some troubleshooting in the Lab so I’ll keep that in mind – when I started the CCIE path – [I passed 350-001 in 2001] troubleshooting was of course the last section on Day 2 and if you got that far you were just there – then they eliminated it and now they are bringing it slowly back in but hidden a bit more. ATM is almost identical and of course there is pre-configuration done on the exam. As per Caslow’s thinking with NMC this is a golden moment – Can you ping all peers/interfaces on your FR mesh prior to starting IGP! Checkpoint Number 1 for my attempt!
